GORDON HUGHES is Professor of Criminology at the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, UK. He is Co-director of the European Society of Criminology's European Governance of Public Safety Research Network. He is the author of Understanding Crime Prevention and editor of Imagining Welfare Futures (1998). He is co-editor of Criminological Perspectives, Crime Prevention and Community Safety: New Directions and Crime Control and Community.
