Margret Rey, geboren 1906 in Hamburg, Studium an der Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie und tätig als Werbetexterin und Fotografin. 1935 augewandert nach Rio de Janeiro, Verheiratung und seit 1939 mit ihrem Mann in Paris, wo ihr erste Kinderbuch entstand. Seit 1940 in New York, weitere Veröffentlichungen mit Illustrationen ihresy Mannes. Nach dessen Tod lehrt sie kreatives Schreiben und Gründung der Curious-George-Stiftung. Die Autorin verstarb 1996. Hans Augusto Rey, geboren 1898 in Hamburg, aufgewachsen in der Nähe vom Hagenbeck-Zoo. 1924 ausgewandert nach Rio de Janeiro, Heirat, seit 1939 in Paris. Dort - zusammen mit seiner Frau Margret - Veröffentlichung und Illustration von Kinderbüchern. Ab 1940 in New York. Der Illustrator verstarb 1977 in Cambridge/Massachusetts.
