The focus on light in art after 1945 was due to the political, social and cultural situation of the post-war period. One of the neo-avant-garde in the European art scene working with light was the international ZERO movement. In this volume ZERO works of light-art are critically analyzed from different perspectives with respect to their textual references as well as their mythological aspects in the context with light, brigtness, illumination, purification, sun, optimism, knowledge and order.

Andrea von Hülsen-Esch studierte Kunstgeschichte, Geschichte und Philosophie in Frankfurt a. M. und Göttingen. Promotion 1991, danach wissenschaftliche Referentin am Max-Planck-Institut für Geschichte, Göttingen. Habilitation 2001 an der Humboldt-Universität Berlin. Seit 2001 Professorin für Kunstgeschichte an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität.
