About this book: This book is an autobiography; it follows one person's lifetime. It begins with early childhood and follows the steps leading to entrance and progress through medical school, family developments, practice years, retirement, and post retirement. It attempts to relate not only his actions, but also why he did the things he did, what mattered to him, what worked out and what did not, what gave joy and meaning to his life, what insights he acquired, and what was his developing phiulosophy of life. About the author: Dr. Hinman was born in 1933 in a small farming community in northeastern Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, where in addition to receiving a medical degree, he also received a Masters degree in physiology, taught physiology, and did research on the electrophysiology of muscular dystrophy. Following a later naval internship and susequent service with the Marines, he practiced Family Medicine for thirty-five years in Longmont, Colorado. He served as Chief of Staff for a merger of two hospitals, and was the founding chairperson for both the Departmnent of Family Medicine and th Quality Assessment Comittee. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, and a charter member of the American Board of Family Medicine. He has also written a memoir and several novels. He and his wife live in Longmont; they have three children and eight grandchildren.
