The Influence of Hollywood Films on Ugandan Cinema

On conceptualizing the future of cinema in Uganda, there was eminent need to trace Ugandan history in relation to filming and discuss how existing developed cinemas in a globalized world could have influenced film making of what is locally referred to as 'Kina-Uganda'. This influence becomes visible when the world globalized and turned into 'a global village' a phrasing coined by Marshall McLuhan. In Uganda, filmmakers, like other filmmakers in the world have had to work under this influence. Narrowing the study to trace Ugandan cinema basing on the influence of Hollywood films is as a result of its existence that stretches over years ranging from 'Early Cinema (1895-1914); Silent Era (1914-1928), Classical Hollywood (1928-1947); Hollywood in Transition (1948-1968), Auteur Period (1968-1980) and New Hollywood (1980-present)." Its easier to assume that such cinemas from Hollywood could easily influence other global cinemas and in particular Uganda cinema through its marketing style and production techniques. Aesthetically an in-depth comparative study is based on approaches used by the directors both in Uganda and Hollywood cinemas.
