The Gender-Environment-Livelihood Nexus interrogates the relationship between environment and livelihoods in the Niger Delta Region and the various ways in which the women have become the victims of the activities of state and state-supported activities that compromise environmental services. Because most of the Niger Delta of Nigeria is rural, and because of the failure of government to provide essential social services, the typically poor women in the region depend on environmental resources for all household food, water and energy needs. However, climate change, activities of multinational oil and gas companies, as well as men's exploitation of the forest resources have compromised the quality and quantity of the livelihood assets and asset portfolios of women. The book examines the environment and their livelihoods in the Niger Delta of Nigeria; women's use of selected environmental resources; women's plight; some collateral damages on them and reviews some policy deficits that perpetrate these damages. The proposed policy thrusts are targeted at the achievement of the gendered Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
