Hans Christian Andersen wurde am 2. April 1805 im dänischen Odense geboren; seit 1967 wird an seinem Geburtstag der Internationale Kinderbuchtag begangen. Das mit einer unbändigen Fantasie und kreativen Ader ausgestattete Einzelkind wurde von seinem Vater sowie mehreren anderen Gönnern in seiner künstlerischen Laufbahn gefördert. Andersen schrieb Romane, Gedichte und 168 Märchen, von denen viele zu internationalen Klassikern geworden sind. Er starb 1875 im Alter von 70 Jahren hochanerkannt als Nationaldichter Dänemarks.

Noel Daniel studierte nach ihrem Abschluss an der Universität von Princeton als Fulbright-Stipendiatin in Berlin.
