Here he meets a beautiful Navajo girl named Mai who gives him a precious gift. After helping the People of the Desert, Circle returns to Houston. There he finds a battle, however, because NASA scientists have devised a way to get down to the earth again by slowing the Earth down. A fight has begun, however, because a radical group of people have gotten used to living in the air and don't want to return to the ground because they would lose their power. Circle must decide how to help with the battle in the air and has a battle in his own heart over Rosario and Mai.
