Alan and his wife Patricia live in a small village in the beautiful rural countryside of North Yorkshire, they had lived in the Yorkshire Dales for twenty years before moving into village life. Being surrounded by many farms it was only natural that there would be chickens, lots of them. It was on their journeys in and out of the village with their Grandchildren that they often used to see two chickens in particular. These two chickens were quickly named Gladys and Doris. Gladys always looked smart and clean but Doris was nearly always dirty and a bit scruffy. From the Granchildren's imaginative ideas about these two chickens Alan decided to write some adventures for both of them. The Grandchildren are now all grown up but still always ask about Gladys and her friend, and indeed still like to read the stories. It was then that Alan thought that maybe other children would like to read about Gladys' adventures. So here they are, we hope you like them.
