"The Absolute Truth And Other Uncertainties-A Remembrance" chronicles the life of Fairfield Goodale, a New Englander who left Harvard to become a World War II fighter pilot but later returned to school to become a physician.
Goodale was propelled into a successful medical career after a brief but intensely emotional experience in 1945 at the Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. He was educated in pathology and research at Western Reserve, Massachusetts General Hospital, Oxford, and Harvard. As a researcher, he became fascinated with the relationship between dietary fat and atherosclerosis. Later, as Chairman of Pathology at the Medical College of Virginia, Goodale developed an interest in paleopatholgy, traveling to Peru to autopsy mummies and evaluate ancient dietary trends and atherosclerotic damage. He also promoted innovative medical curricula during his tenure as dean of two prominent medical schools.
"The Absolute Truth And Other Uncertainties-A Remembrance" explores the philosophical insights and rich life experiences of this widely traveled veteran and medical educator. All of the author's proceeds from the sale of "The Absolute Truth And Other Uncertainties-A Remembrance" will be donated to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Foundation, Santa Barbara, California.
