The discovery of high temperature superconductors HTSwith critical temperatures Tc above the liquidNitrogen boiling temperature 77K, stimulated thescientific community. Four families of HTS werediscovered. These are Yttrium, Bismuth, Thallium, andMercury based superconductors. Despite the extensiveresearch carried out after that, practicalapplications faced limitations. One of thelimitations is the fact that the maximum Tc is stillfar below room temperature. Variouschemical-processing methods can be used in hope toovercome the first problem. In this book, doping withBoron and Lithium to improve the properties ofThallium based HTS have been studied. Anotherlimitation is the fact that the maximum currentcarried by a HTS, namely critical current Ic, isactually not infinite. In this regard, texturing ofsuperconducting grains and irradiation are verysuccessful methods to improve the limiting Ic. Inthis work, the production of superconducting tapesand the effect of magnetic field and gammairradiation on them have been studied. This book ismostly useful for higher-grade undergraduatestudents, graduate students, materials scientists, and experimental physicists.
