Texting Mia is a chronology of the text messages between my sister Mia and I from August 2012 through April 2014. The book starts with a prologue that provides a summary of the respective life histories of me and my sister. The prologue also provides an in depth look at the relationship between Mia and I and our parents over the years. At the start of 2012, a job loss forced me to have to move in with the parents at 36 yrs old. A job loss would force my sister to do the same thing at the start of 2013 at 41 yrs old. We text each other about a lot of different things--mundane, serious, light-hearted, etc. And of course we bitch a lot about our lives and about how we can't stand these parents. The scars remain from the very strict upbringing we were subjected to. Our mother in particular hit us a lot and basically terrorized us for years when we were kids. While Mia and I have a lot in common, we don't necessarily see eye to eye on everything. Throughout the text message chronology, I provide commentary in italics that gives more context to the texts. Sometimes my sister would send me a text that really ticked me off, but I don't let on in my replies that I'm annoyed. With my italicized commentaries, I get to say the things I really wanted to say to my sister at the time, but I didn't say because I didn't want her to get mad. Putting this book together was a rather cathartic experience.
