This glossary of genetics is a list of definitions, explanations and illustrations of terms (with their clear figures) and concepts commonly used in the study of branches of genetics (classical and advanced genetics) and related disciplines in biology, including molecular biology and evolutionary biology. Some terms have been skipped alphabetically due to the convergence of their meanings. In this glossary of genetics we give the original meanings of various genetic terms, which will be found in the older literature, together with some of the various meanings that are sometimes ascribed to them today, and how the terms will be defined in the following chapters. For example, cytogenetics studies chromosomal alterations such as structural or numerical chromosomal changes, while molecular genetics studies DNA, gene and interaction of proteins to investigate genetic defects.
