Teaching and Research - the Nexus: My Experience

In this book, I discuss a variety of theories related to teaching with my experience on learning, teaching and researching. I have analyzed new teaching theories through my research experiences from undergraduate teaching and also from the feedback obtained from the peers and students in order to recognize the requirements to be an academically sound junior university teacher. The research that I carried out focusing on classroom teaching and learning activity by applying Mind Mapping technique revealed that 86 per cent of students identified "Mind Mapping" as an active, creative, and collaborative learning technique. The practice enabled students to be more innovative in their learning process. Some students claimed that they can apply the technique successfully to another situation while others said that they could relate this experience significantly in different contexts. This kind of research work helped me to identify a strong correlation between teaching and research. I have made this scholarly contribution with the spirit of sharing my reflective experience as a junior academic.
