Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages in Britain provides a comprehensive history, in English, of language teaching and learning in the UK from the year 1600 to the year 2000. Nicola McLelland is Professor in German and History of Linguistics at the University of Nottingham and Editor of the journal Language & History. Her interests span the history of linguistics, sociolinguistics (past and present), and the history of language learning and teaching.
