Field, lab and greenhouse studies were carried out to investigate taxonomic revision, genetic similarity, phenotypic plasticity, salt treatments and phylogeny between wild and cultivated Hordeum taxa. Findings of the present work are summarized in the following points: The morphological study revealed that, the position of the two subspecies of H. marinum (subsp. gussoneanum and subsp. marinum) in one group, confirmed its earlier taxonomic treatment as two subspecies of the same species. Similarly, the position of H. spontaneum and H. vulgare in one group also confirmed its treatment as separate closely related species. On the other hand, the position of the two subspecies of H. murinum (subsp. glaucum and subsp. leporinum) in two groups, confirmed the dissimilarity between two subspecies and recommended separation of both subspecies into two separate species namely H. glaucum and H. leporinum. The molecular study revealed that, the position of the two subspecies of H. marinum (subsp. gussoneanum and subsp. marinum) in one groups, confirmed its earlier taxonomic treatment as two subspecies of the same species.
