As a life long member of the Church of Christ, the author has seen a great deal of turmoil in the brotherhood over various issues that have cropped up through the years. From the great debate over whether it was okay to put a water fountain in the church building where he grew up, to the more widespread issues like whether or not using instrumental music was a salvation issue, to having the proper name on the building to whether or not it was okay to use more than one cup during communion, the issues have created great divides in our fellowship. After many head scratching years of wondering why we have been unable to agree on some of these doctrinal issues, he finally realized the source of the problem. The source of the problem is that we've truly had a multiple choice set of rules for interpreting scripture. The problems have arisen because of the differences in opinion about which method of interpretation should be used for each different issue. Though the various methods of interpretation had been employed all his life, it wasn't until more recent years that he actually became aware of these multiple methods and the conflicts they were causing. He's found that very few people in the church have been cognizant of these different methods, though they've employed them all their life as well. After much soul searching, and much digging in the word, Dennis believes he has found the flaws in the methods we've been using, and a solution to the problem as well so that, hopefully, we can now be united in how we interpret scripture, and the outcomes that will result from it. We've all been well versed in the old adage/passage that says, "He that thinketh he stands, take heed lest he falls." Please join the author in this fresh look journey to see if what he says had merit. Let's be like those noble Bereans who searched the scriptures, one more time, to the glory of God. D1
