When the book was being finished, the Canadian authorities introduced package of sanctions against the world's first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova and the world's second female cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya. Radical change in the attitude of the policy towards these cosmonauts, the first women to travel into space, clearly demonstrates the blind and destructive influence of the sanctions policy, considering a low presence of women in the spaceflights. The importance of this research is highlighted by the continued in 2023 imposition of sanctions without the approval of the United Nations Security Council, which once again raised the question of the legality of such actions, given the existing commercial, commercial and other interests, other than military-strategic.These and other questions are scrutinized in the several chapters of this book. After the general overview of the comprehensive and unilateral sanctions in the international law, the issues of the liability for sanctions breaches and negative effects of sanctions and lawfulness of sanctions are researched.

Ekaterina Anyanova completed her LL.M. and Dr.iur studies at Hamburg University and three years later received her Candidate of legal science degree from Institute of State and Law in Moscow. At present she works on her thesis for a Doctor of legal science degree on the maritime security issue. She also works as a legal adviser.
