The pesticides which have been widely applied though they are carried forth by wind and water and distributed elsewhere. It was found that some pesticide decomposed slowly into compounds that were toxic to fish and wild life species. World wide 70,000 chemicals are in use and some 500 to 1000 new are added each year. The investigation described in this work deals basically with the problem of contamination of pesticides in soil. The pesticide residue is increasing day by day and disturbing the food chain. To predict the behaviour of pesticides and their future aspects we have performed this study taking three synthetic aluminosilicates minerals named illite, montmorilonite and phlogopite and varying parameters like concentration of pesticide, temperature and pH of solution. This study can help to describe and develop a material which can serve both as fertilizer and pesticide. For the above study we have selected an organophsphate pesticide malathion which is widely applied for many pests. The main phenomenon by which pesticide interacts with soil and minerals is adsorption. The whole work consists of five main chapters.
