Period of this study takes about six months from the beginning of August 2012 to the end of January 2013, 155 patients that had done surgical operations in orthopaedic department of Benghazi Medical Center , in Benghazi city - Libya, in the period between 2011 and 2012. The samples from the surgical site of operations is taken from those patients, and microbiological study had been done to this area , and searching if there was an infections after surgery from follow up of those patients in the orthopaedic department and dressing room post- surgery. Also principle data of every patient had been taken from the statistic department of Benghazi Medical Center, by their files and what is written including surgical history of the case, operation information, and any health problems that may accompanied to the main problem . This study found that the incidence of surgical site of infection in orthopaedic department in Benghazi Medical Center is 38.7%. And the bacteria that cause surgical site infections are as following : Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aerogenosa, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Klebseilla spp., Proteus spp., Streptococcus pyogens, Acinetobacter.
