Leachate is highly polluted liquid due to high content of ammonium ions and organic compounds. The high ammonia content causes the problem when leachate move downwards from landfill into ground-water table as a result of infiltrated precipitation, ground-water gets contaminated. Once groundwater is contaminated it is very costly to clean-up.
