Bacteria in the genera Bacillus, Streptomyces, Pseudomonas, Burkholderia, and Agrobacterium are the biological control agents predominantly studied and increasingly marketed. They suppress plant disease through at least one mechanism, production of antibiotics or siderophores and induction of systemic resistance. The aim of this book is to provide a brief knowledge about plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. We have included their characterization of Pseudomonas in plant growth promotion and in biological control by various biometric parameters in chickpea in pot trials. The long term goals of the studies reported here were to initiate development of microbial consortia to control phytopathogens of Glycine max and Vigna radiata. Understanding of biocontrol mechanism by detecting volatile metabolites. Other biocontrol attributes special emphasis on cloning and expression to improve the production of lytic enzyme cellulase.
