Efficient use of fertilizers is highly essential for sustainable agriculture, in the context of declining per capita availability of cultivable land, dwindling natural resources, increasing ecological disturbances and escalating cost of fertilizers. Compulsion of increasing productivity due to limited scope to bring new land under cultivation makes it obligatory to use fertilizers more efficiently. In the present context, there is a need to study the influence of surface fertigation involving the source, dosage and split application of fertilizers. The study also focuses on possible impact of surface fertigation on vertical and horizontal distribution of nutrients in the soil profile, which are of great significance in the nutrient uptake and availability.
