Chronic stress negatively affects outcomes in many chronic diseases. Research evidence indicates that stress reduction can contribute to better patients health conditions and quality of life (QoL). Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a standardized, educational/behavioral intervention, scientifically proven to be safe and beneficial. However, MBSR has not been explored in diabetic population. In response to this challenge, this monograph will shed some light on possible correlations between the MBSR, cardio-metabolic biomarkers, and quality of life, among patients with in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This book proposes a pilot study, designed to examine the feasibility of integrating MBSR into standard diabetes therapy. This work can be particularly useful to practitioners providing diabetes care in multidisciplinary teams, and to researchers, who attempt to extend the current, lifestyle oriented diabetes management, by introducing innovative, patient friendly stress reduction interventions. The presented monograph is consistent with global efforts to successfully combat cardiometabolic diseases that plague our civilization, and augment medical care costs.
