The present study is devoted to the description of the main melodic and temporal characteristics of the narrator's speech in American television newscasts (news and weather forecasts), which provide the optimal prosodic form of the speech message in this widespread genre of oral speech.A wide range of basic tone frequency is revealed, providing significant modulations of melodic. Substantial information in the text is marked by smooth, undulating and gliding configurations of melody in the preterminal parts of the phonation segment, and by descending nuclear tones. There is a normal speech tempo in terms of average syllable duration and number of syllables per time unit, which guarantees intelligibility of the speaker's speech despite an increase in non-pausal intervals and a significant decrease in pause duration.
