Paucity of information exists in Cross River State (CRS) on the potentials of palmwine tapping and marketing as an alternative and viable enterprise in the rural economy of the state. The broad objective of the study was therefore to investigate the socio-economic potential of palm wine tapping and marketing in Cross River State. The study was carried out using a survey method. Applying a multistage sampling technique, 30% of the Local Government Areas (LGAs) in each of the three geopolical senatorial districts were selected for the study. A systematic and purposive sampling technique was used at 30 % sampling intensity to select 68 palmwine tappers and 82 palmwine retailers for the study. Snowball sampling method and willingness to complete questionnaire were applied in selecting 136 consumers of palmwine for the study. Total sample size was therefore 286.
