Following Islamic conquest of Iran and Islamization of the population, Arabs insistence on their privileged racial status over Ajams resulted in massive discrimination against non-Arab Persians. Since the 7th century, in response to the growing Arabization, Persian Muslims started a cultural movement of peaceful resistance later known as "Shu'ubiyya." This book briefly describes the history of Shu'ubiyya movement in Iran with focus on its social and cultural elements. As a unique aspect to this book, the author translates many of the Arabic poems written by Iranian Muslims into their equivalent poems in Farsi language. These translated Farsi poems clearly illustrate the extent of influence of "Shu'ubiyya" movement against Arabization of Iranian culture and demonstrate the historic power of pen among Persians in their struggle against discrimination.
