The importance of medicinal plants become patent at present time in developing countries. In pakistan, it is estimated that 80% of the people depends on plants to cure themselves. The Medicinal plant Sea buckthorn (hippophae sp.) has attained the immense global importance because of its multifold medicinal and nutritional value. In our studies Biochemical analysis has been the ones that determined the main components (vitamins, minerals) of this plant expressing at different growth stages. This active principle provide basic raw material for their medicinal uses and other molecular studies. This plant is the rich source of polysaccharides,phenolic compounds and other secondary metabolites which on one hand are the potential source for drugs but furthermore they make RNA isolation for molecular studies a tedious job. Here we provided detailed studies of different modified RNA isolation methods to obtain high quality RNA from sea buckthorn plant. This good quality RNA can be used in RT-PCR analysis. These studies helped us to isolate micro-nutrient genes from this plant. This book is a gift for those who are interested in gene isolation studies from plants rich in phenolic compound.

I completed my B.Sc and M.phil(PB&MG)from Faculty of Agriculture Rawalakot Poonch,AJK. I am working on morphological,biochemical and molecular aspects of sea buckthorn since 2003. I have international publication from this work.Currently i am working on my phd research project for the Isolation of Folate and vitamins Genes from this plant in NIGAB
