It was late August or early September, 2002. My father and my sister were planning to go to Scotland in early October. I was not yet married and staying with my parents. My sister came over and asked me if I wanted to go to Scotland. My reply was that I would love to, but I didn't have any money. She said that she was not going to be able to go and would pay the $75 to transfer the ticket to me. I then expressed the concern that I would have no money to spend while I was there. Of course I would stay with my father, and my parents told me they would give me some money to spend while I was there. So it was an essentially free trip to Scotland. Like so many places that I went to long ago, I unfortunately do not remember all of the specific sights. But I did trek most of the West Highland Trail, went to Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle, and the Isle of Skye. While I don't consider these to be my best photographs from a technical perspective, the interplay of varying light upon the Scottish landscape still makes for what I consider beautiful photographs. On many days you can stand in a single spot and never take the same picture twice, the clouds and light change so much. What I remember most was stopping at the Scotch liquor store on the way up to Edinburgh Castle and buying as many mini bottles as I could so that I could sample the maximum number of Scotch Whiskeys. I have arranged the photographs first with the ones in portrait, and then all of the landscape images are rotated so that you don't have to keep turning the book to look at the pictures.
