Standard samurai sudoku contain five overlapping sudoku grids. You'll need to solve them simultaneously in order to complete the puzzles successfully. With samurai star sudoku, there are also five overlapping grids, but the overlap is a lot tighter than with normal samurai sudoku puzzles: in fact the central puzzle is composed fully from regions that make up the other four grids.

There are 50 of each puzzle type in the book, which comes on high-quality paper with full solutions also included at the back of the book. There is one puzzle per page, which means that the grids are displayed at a good size for solving and pencilmarks, so that there is sufficient space for you to record your progress as you go along. Each puzzle has a single solution that can be reached through logic alone, so you'll never need to guess the answer: as with standard sudoku just place the numbers from 1 - 9 once in each row, column and 3x3 box in each grid, being careful to remember which regions belong to each of the five grids in each puzzle.
