Green revolution has solved the food problems of man kind to certain extent, but aggravated the human health problems. Indiscriminate use of pesticides to protect the crops from pests polluted the surroundings and affected the non-target organisms.Pesticides are considered as economic toxins. We use more pesticides because we want to produce more food and hence nutrition. So, man has been using more pesticides in spite of knowing the fact that pesticides are poison- causing both acute and chronic health effects. We can say that pesticide production is a poison - nutrition trade off. India suffers from double burden of pesticides, both acute as well as chronic. Annually about 8,000 to 10,000 cases are being reported with more than 1,000 fatalities. Excessive and indiscriminate use of chemicals caused ecological imbalance leading to potential health hazards .As the pesticide use can not be banned in the present scenario, at least we should minimize their use.The present study examines the neurotoxicity of an Organophosphate Compound Acephate on selected neurochemical and histological alterations in different brain regions of albino rat.
