Diesel engines play a substantial part in almost all energy-related areas, especially in the transportation and power generation sectors. They are one of the most efficient prime movers with high thermal efficiency and durability. Despite these advantages, they have a serious downside, which is the higher exhaust emission.Because of the lavish consumption and continuous usage, the fossil reserves are getting depleted rapidly. These issues and the ever-increasing price of crude oil have forced the world nations to look for alternate energy resources. Even though a lot of alternative fuel shave been commercialized, reducing the emissions without compromising the performance of the engine still remains a challenge for researchers. So in this present study, a detailed investigation is carried out to assess the potential of plastic oil (PO) as an alternate fuel for high speed light-duty compression ignition engine. Also, the performance, combustion and emission characteristics of the engine fueled with plastic oil are analyzed.
