He examines relationships between the layers of hardware, software, human agents, culture, and history, and answers the question of how specific technologies afford and even constrain cultural practices, including in this case the academic research agendas of humanities computing and, later, digital humanities. Steven E. Jones is DeBartolo Chair of Liberal Arts and Professor of Digital Humanities at the University of South Florida. He was a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the CUNY Graduate Center Advanced Research Consortium in 2014-2015 and a recipient of the Keats-Shelley Association Distinguished Scholar award in 2013. His most recent book, The Emergence of the Digital Humanities, highlights his specialties in textual studies and digital humanities.
