At age thirty, Rose never expected to quit her job, load up her clothes and a 1940's Royal typewriter and head south to an old mansion her grandmother owns. The mansion sits on the banks of the historic Suwannee River in northern Florida, near the sleepy fishing village of Suwanee. Little did she know that the decision could cost her life and her head. When she sets the typewriter down on the desk in the office of the house, the mansion seems to come alive with ghosts and strange happenings. The caretaker Nathan who is about her age and ruggedly handsome is a boat gypsy. He sails the coast in his sailboat, but has decided he likes the seclusion of the old house surrounded by live oaks with Spanish moss trailing to the ground. When he hears that the granddaughter of the woman who owns the house is coming to stay, he worries she will be a rich snob who looks down on him and thinks he is her servant. As the house comes alive with ghosts, voodoo and rooms that are there one minute and not the next, he wonders if maybe he should get in his boat and leave it and the beautiful redhead behind. Rose is out of her element with all the paranormal stuff going on. The voodoo is almost too much for her. Finally Nathan calls upon an old friend, a practitioner of white voodoo that is at least a hundred and twenty years old, for help. Will she be enough to combat the evil that seems to permeate the house?
