Why was the Qur'an revealed? Was it revealed so that we could memorize its sound and then live our lives any way we like? Or did it come so that we understand it, reflect on it and live our lives according to it? True it is that the one who memorizes the Qur'an is a Haafidh. But what if all that he is really the Haafidh of, is the sound of the Ayaat - not their meaning or implementation? It is my hope that with the right approach instead of us memorizing the sound and calling ourselves Haafidh, if we approach the Qur'an correctly and memorize it, understand it and live by it such that the Qur'an will become our Haafidh. That in the end is the most valuable of all things.
