La discipline de droit international prive a ete dominee pour plus de trois siecles par la notion de conflits de lois, mais il n'y a point de conflits de lois. Des lois peuvent etre differentes, certes, mais ce sont les gens qui entrent en conflit et non pas des lois. Ajouter une notion de conflit de lois ajoute un autre niveau de conflit et ne resout pas le veritable conflit. Creer des regles de droit international prive pour resoudre des conflits de lois est donc inutile et produit une complexite injustifiee. En revanche, la conciliation des lois s'impose de nos jours a cause de l'interdependance croissante des Etats et la nature des conflits dans le monde. Elle correspond au developpement de nouvelles logiques paraconsistantes et possede sa propre histoire, differente de l'histoire belliqueuse des conflits de lois. La conciliation des lois vient a la rescousse de la desintegration des regles de conflits de lois, et il y a un processus semblable de la conciliation des roles des acteurs juridiques, de la conciliation des competences, et de la conciliation des lois etatiques et non etatiques.
