Sudan is rich in animal resources,with estimate of 131.6 million heads which equivalent to about 65million tropical animal unit(TAU),in addition to high number of wildlife.These large animal resources contribute very much to the national economy through foreign earning. Despite this large number of animals, the range condition in the country is poor and very much deteriorated to cope with animal needs.Causes of range land deterioration in Sudan are over grazing, shifting cultivation, uncontrollable cutting of trees,free grazing of range lands and drought spells,in addition to premature grazing patterns.There are many techniques for rehabilitation of degraded rangeland these include;seeding methods, soil moisture conservation,fencing,weed control measures,tillage methods and water harvesting techniques. It is necessary that the natural range lands especially in the Western part of the country,needed to be given a priority for range improvement to bridge the gap between the dry matter supply and the animal feed demands .This book,therefore;is providing information for livestock herders,students,researchers,range management societies and societies of environmental conservation.
