Public health challenges have prompted many policy makers to formulate policies to combat the traditional and the emerging challenges with an intention of eradicating them at the local, regional or at the global level. There are several global policies that have been formulated such as primary health care declared at the Alma-Atta, Millennium Development Goals among others but indicators show slow progress in attainment of these goals. In the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), some of the critical pillars of health are the reduction of maternal health problems, reduction of child mortality rate and reduction of infections of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis by the year 2020. An estimated 287,000 maternal deaths occurred in 2010 worldwide, a decline of 47 per cent from 1990.
