This is a book about Second Language Acquisition (SLA) from a psycholinguistic perspective. It consists of seven chapters. Chapter (1) presents a historical and theoretical background which sets the scene for the rest of the book. It examines a number of central questions and issues which L2 acquisition research has addressed. Chapter (2) presents the major psycholinguistic approaches to (SLA), focusing on both early and the most recent conceptions. Chapter (3) examines the relationship between L1 and L2 emphasizing the fact that the influence between them tends to be bidirectional. Chapter (4) presents an overview of pertinent research dealing with aspects of metalinguistic awareness (MLA) and L2 learners' performance in multi-dimesnional linguistic problems. Chapter (5) deals with L2 listening comprehension skill from both linguistic and cognitive perspectives. Chapter (6) examines the cognitive and linguistic deficits in L2 writing. Finally, Chapter (7) is a wrap-up concluding chapter in which some pedagogical issues are discussed in the light of what has been examined in the first six chapters.
