This book considers the possibility of reducing the maximum deflection of systems resting on an elastic foundation under the impact of continuous uniformly distributed load in the course of transmission of the load at the same length (diameter) in several sections, the length of which is less than the wavelength of deformation. In the book, the discovered property is considered for infinite and semi-infinite cylindrical shells; infinite and semi-infinite beams and an infinitely large plate on an elastic foundation. The maximum value of deflection in this case is reduced for various systems by 30 to 43%. The property described in the book explains why sometimes toilet paper is torn off across the sheet rather than along the perforations. Using the methodology set out in the book it is possible obtain dependencies for calculating the sizes of perforations and gaps between them for an occurrence where deformations and tensions within the cross-section of location of such perforations are reduced, which will result in an increase in the durability of this cross-section.
