Introduction: Periodontal abscess is a circumscribed, purulent infection, localized in the supporting tissues of the tooth and can lead to the destruction of the desmodont and the alveolar bone. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of periodontal abscesses in venous patients attending the Odontology Department of the Sikasso Regional Hospital. Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study of descriptive type, lasting 45 days from July 14 to August 27, 2018. The sampling was of the all-coming consultation type during the same study period. Results: Out of 251 patients examined, 31 cases of periodontal abscesses were identified, i.e. a prevalence of 12.35%. Acute abscesses represented 74.19%. The age group of 20-29 years is the most represented with09 cases or 29.03% of periodontal abscesses. Conclusion: The early and correct management of these periodontal abscesses in children does not compromise the healing potential of the periodontium and also reduces school and professional absenteeism.
