This cross sectional study was done in Nand Nagri, an urban resettlement colony of Delhi from Aug 2010-Feb 2012. A total of 310 subjects aged 20-59 years were studied through Multi stage, systematic random sampling. Prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of hypertension and other associated variables were observed and recorded. BP was measured and recorded according to JNC-VII and AHA recommendations, physical measurements namely WC, WHR and BMI were also recorded using WHO guidelines. A pretested structured schedule was used to identify, if any: presence of Hypertension, OH, current anti hypertensive treatment, non pharmacological measures, status of awareness, treatment and control of BP, risk factors (smoking, alcohol, physical activity, salt intake, etc), presence of TOD/ CCD, family history of hypertension and/ diabetes and/ CCD, Reasons behind no treatment or irregular treatment among hypertensive subjects and socio-demographic data of subjects. On applying m.l.r. Age 30 yrs, Sedentary Occupation, High WC, Positive family history of hypertension in both parents and above average daily salt intake were found to be significantly associated risk factors.
