The forest road network is the main basis for all activity, but forest roads have been one of the main causes of erosion and silting of watercourses in planted forests, as they promote the removal of vegetation cover, soil movement and bed compaction, making such roads vulnerable to erosion caused by rain. To date, despite the major technological changes that have taken place in forestry and the importance of transport for forestry companies, there are few studies on the optimisation of timber transport, particularly with regard to the issue of erosion. In addition, the tools available have proven to be ineffective for use in specific situations outside the location where they were developed. The overall objective of this study was to develop a criterion for identifying the risk of erosion on forest roads based on the LS topographic factor, which considers the slope and length of ramps.
