The Power System is an extremely non-linear and dynamic system, with operating parameters continuously varying. Stability is hence, a function of the initial operating condition and the nature of the disturbance. The system must be in a position to be able to adjust to the changing conditions and operate satisfactorily. The system must also withstand large disturbances, which may even cause structural changes due to isolation of some faulted elements. The significance of power system stability is increasingly becoming one of the most limiting factors for system performance. Power system transient stability is related to the ability to maintain synchronism when subjected to a severe disturbance, such as a short circuit on the bus. This book proposes a new structure of coordination between two FACTS devices for transient stability improvement of a power system. Furthermore, to achieve a quickly respond and adapt to the power system model, a neural network as a model to control the power transfer of FACTS devices are used. The significant performance of intelligent controller compared with Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller through simulation studies on an test power system.
