Poverty reduction, or poverty alleviation, is a set of measures, both economic and humanitarian, that are intended to permanently lift people out of poverty. Causes of poverty is changing trends in a country's economy. Associated with the lack of education, high divorce rate, a culture of poverty, some of the causes are also illiteracy, overpopulation, epidemic diseases such as AIDS and malaria and environmental problems such as lack of rainfall. The poverty line is then defined as the amount of income required to satisfy those needs. Studies show that a 10 percents increase in a country's average income reduces poverty by as much as 20-30 percents. It improves management of water and other natural resources in the circumstances when most of the rural poor people depend on agriculture or other natural resources for their livelihood.
