The Swedish documentary My Heart of Darkness (2011) tells the story of a South African paratrooper returning to Angola. Facing former enemies, he tries to regain mental health and find reconciliation. The film is the stepping-stone for the contributors to this volume. They examine different facets like memory discourse, genre aspects, the use of music, and authentification processes. Other essays discuss the historical context of the Angolan Civil War and the aftermath of this conflict in the cultural sphere as well as other cinematic representations of the conflict.
