Black women in Canada and Brazil are the basis of society, which means that they are payed lower incomes and suffer from different forms of prejudice in society. Jamaican-born, living in Canada for many years, Afua Cooper, and Brazilian Alzira Rufino are two women whose activism put in discussion ideas that support those discourses. In my work I point out the "turning point" attitude as fundamental for those cultural practices to be reviewed. With "turning point" I mean the decision a woman makes to change the course of her life after reflecting on it. Many woman reflect on their condition, but not so many have the courage to make the change.
