In the fascinating memoir Pinosi (Pinoy Aussie): A Filipino Immigrant in Australia 42 Years, the joys and sorrows of immigration are explored. The book tells of the Filipino author and his wife who live in comfortable circumstances, yet decide to immigrate to Australia at a time when the country was still in the "White Australia" mode. What motivated them to emigrate? Did they have alternatives? Why did they select Australia and how did they fare? What difficulties did they encounter? Were their expectations met? These and many other questions are described by the author in a humorous and philosophical way that makes for enjoyable reading. Eduardo Maria de la Cruz Gutierrez was born into a family of means in a resort city in the cool mountains of Northern Philippines. His idyllic childhood was shattered by World War II. His father, Mariano, navigated the family safely through the neighborhood battlefield. After the war, Mariano enrolled his children in the best schools. Following high school, Eduardo spent eight years as a member of the De La Salle Brothers, but he resigned from the order before pronouncing perpetual vows. He began a career in marketing, advertising, real estate and the stock market, married at 27, and had two children before immigrating to Australia. About the Author: Eduardo Maria de la Cruz Gutierrez was motivated to write this book to honor the 9 million Filipinos working overseas. The retired financial planner grew up in the Philippines and now lives in Sydney. Author website: http: //sbpra.com/EduardoMariadelaCruzGutierrez
