Rapid urbanization, industrialization is generating high levels of noise which can be a serious threat to the inhabitants of urban areas. There are many sources of noise however, during past few decades motorized traffic noise has attained the most important place. Varanasi, the oldest living city of the world is characterized by narrow roads and lanes in which traffic noise reverberates. Higher traffic density forced excessive noise, leading to hearing loss, sleep disturbance, cardiovascular morbidity, change of physiological system, change in social behavior, psychological stress etc. As nature of traffic is complex therefore its control becomes a difficult problem. Vegetation belt has been proposed as a natural material to reduce noise energy outdoors. The entire study is divided in to two parts, the first part include information regarding effect of noise on human health. Second part contains information about phytoremediation of noise pollution. Phytoremediation part contains two experiments in first experiments, APTI and API of some plant species has been evaluated and based on APTI and API selected plants were used in phytoremediation experiments.
