In recent years, intensive research has been carried out either to characterize some amazing properties of plant materials to isolate and identify the compounds responsible for those activities. Punica granatum Linn. (Pomegranate) is a plant belongs to Punicaceae family locally called as Anar, a fruit of great antiquity.This plant species have been cultivated in the Middle-East for more than 5,000 years ago and it is found in Iran, Egypt, India, Bangladesh, Srilanka, North Africa, California and Arizona. Pomegranate peels are used as a popular remedy throughout the world and exploited in traditional medicine because of their strong mordancy properties. Bark, leaves, immature fruits and fruit rind of different parts of pomegranate have valuable therapeutic potential. Several studies have focused on prevention and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. This book will focus on the phytochemical constituents, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of Punica granatum peel extracts.

Jayaprakash is currently working as Assistant Professor in Biochemistry at Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu, India and has done his Ph.D (Biochemistry-Botany) at CAS in Botany, University of Madras. His area of specialization includes Biochemistry, Mycology and Industrial Biotechnology.
